Geibel Funeral Home Obituaries

Doris G. Comiskey

Comiskey, 87, of Yakima, passed away at Cottage In The Meadow on April 11, 2018. Mom was surrounded by family and loved ones as she passed on to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father and to the many loved ones who preceded her. Mom was born on May 18, 1930, in Jersey City, New Jersey to Nicholas and Eleanor Geibel. She married John J. Comiskey on August 28, 1954. Doris graduated with a Nursing Degree and worked as a Registered Nurse in public health and because many of the doctors were away in the Korean War, she often served as a “shotgun” nurse riding ambulance rotations. Of all the careers that our mother had, she was most proud of being a public health nurse.Through our family’s journeys from New Jersey, Salt Lake City, San Jose, CA. and ultimately Yakima in 1972, our mom was versatile, working in real estate, insurance and as a business owner of Cook’s Corner in the mall with her best friend, Connie Cross. Mom went on to be a college administrator for City University and Trend College. She touched many lives as a friend, mentor, colleague, philanthropist and most certainly as our mom, treating all our friends as family.Mom was all about family! She loved all of us, our friends, and all their kids and families. She loved Lake Chelan and all the special memories we’ve had there. She loved Lincoln City and all the summers on Devil’s Lake. She loved adventures of any kind. Our mom was a gamer too, never turning down an opportunity to play cribbage, rummy or Yahtzee. She almost always won, which was a source of much consternation with the rest of the family!Doris is survived by her four children, Kathy (Rick) Gendron, Jerry (Teri) Comiskey, MaryAnn Comiskey (Pete Dixon), and Paul (Julie) Comiskey, as well as her fabulous grandchildren, Sarah (Dan) St. Mary, Nicholas Gendron, Kendyl Comiskey, Brady Dixon, John Hayden Comiskey and Mackenzie Dixon. Her greatest recent joy has been her great-granddaughter, Nora Louise St. Mary, and her soon to be born great-grandson, Lincoln Joseph St. Mary. Our mom was a strong, smart, kind and irreverent woman. She was full of ... (Yakima Herald-Republic)
